Organiser: Simon Chandler
There is an IMC trip to the Roaches in Staffordshire on 15-17th September. The Don Whillans Memorial Hut (aka Rockhall Cottage) is booked for our use on the nights of 15th & 16th.
Please email to tell me if you’re interested in joining us, either to stay in the hut there or to camp nearby.
I’ll try to arrange transport lifts closer to the date.
Here is some information about staying in the hut…
If you’ve never been to the hut before, it is a unique place, nestled right at foot of the Roaches Lower Tier (in fact you can probably belay from the roof!) which makes it very convenient for a cup of tea between climbs. The climbing is very good with the Roaches right on top of you and Hen Cloud only a short walk away.
You need to park on the road and then carry your things ~400 yards up to the hut. There are 2 bedrooms (one sleeps 8 and one sleeps 4). Built into a rock cave inside the hut is a kitchen with cooking equipment (cooker, microwave, kettles, fridges, pots, pans, crockery, cutlery), but there is also a local pub (Ye Olde Rock Inn) if you want to eat out.
As of 1st September there are 4 places free in the hut. Some other IMCers are camping in a nearby field.
Please contact me by email if you would like a place in the hut or you are considering joining us for climbing.
