Newcomers Evening

We have a regular club climbing evening on the first Monday of each month at the climbing wall at Copleston school in Ipswich, which is one of the best ways to meet IMC members and see if you enjoy climing. People start to arrive about 7.30 pm. All abilities are welcome, whether you’ve climbed before or not, just come along and say hello and we’ll get you climbing (please note that under-16s are not allowed to climb at Copleston unless accompanied by an adult (who is welcome to climb too, but must remain present all the time the under-16 is climbing), and under-18s climbing with the club must sign a parental consent form).

Alternatively, you could come along to one of our social events. If any are planned (usually only during the winter months) then they are listed on our meets calendar.

When you decide that you’d like to become a member

Joining is done in two parts – a membership form, followed by paying the membership fee.

  1. First, please fill in the registration form, which should return you to this page when you’re done.
    1. If you are under 18, you will also need a parent or guardian to fill in the consent form below and send it to the IMC Secretary
    2. We would advise the parent or guardian to read the BMC’s advice booklet Young People Climbing, Hill Walking, Mountaineering: A Parent’s Guide, which is available to buy or download. The IMC have adopted the British Mountaineering Council’s Child Protection Policy so we have a child protection officer who you may contact if you have any questions.
  2. Second, please contact the IMC Treasurer for payment details for the membership fee. We prefer this is by bank transfer, but may be able to accommodate cash payment at one of our Newcomers Evenings which are held at Copleston wall on the second Monday of each month (please contact the Treasurer first to check they’ll be there). Membership for 2023 is:
    1. £24 for an Adult
    2. £18 for an Under-18

Membership of the IMC includes affiliate membership of the British Mountaineering Council (BMC) with the advantages of its insurance scheme (see the BMC website for details). Members’ details are held in a database, and are supplied to the British Mountaineering Club as a condition of membership.
