The Roaches

Organiser: Katie

This years annual trip to the Roaches will be 24th – 26th June. As usual we will be staying at the Don Whilans Memorial Hut (see links below) which is conveniently located right at the base of the Roaches Lower Tier climbs – close enough to pop back for a cup of tea between routes.

The hut can accommodate 12 people and has full kitchen and dining facilities a “lounge” (of sorts) drying room and showers. There is a campsite down the road if demand for places is high (although I am told it is very basic).

There are plenty of routes across all grades from Diff/V.Diff up to high E grades, details of which can be found in the RockFax Western Grit guidebook and on the RockFax database (link below).

Price will be £20 per person for Friday and Saturday night if we fill the hut (which given the popularity of previous years shouldn’t be a problem). I need to pay the full amount a month before so will need all money in by Friday May 20th.

We usually get together for a communal meal the Saturday night. Last year the Mediterranean / Tapas theme worked well and in the past we have done curry. let me know your thoughts, I’m open to any new suggestions.

This is an informal meet so the usual rules apply regarding arranging your own climbing partners and making travel arrangements but if anyone needs a lift or has a spare seat let me know and I will do my best to put people in touch.
