Sport Climbing – South Wales

Staying at Fferm Gelli Campsite near Newbridge. I’ve not stayed there before, in the past it’s been a struggle to find a good campsite in the area, but it looks lovely. Small, family run farm site, with a takeaway cafe and dogs welcome.

I’d be happy to do some research and see if I can find a decent local pub for dinner on the Saturday if people are interested.

Sport climbing is the ideal way for less experienced club members to take their climbing outdoors. One of the reasons I picked this location is because in the past we’ve found the lower graded climbs much more accessible here than places like Portland where the 5s can be a bit of a sandbag. In South Wales our experience is that the grades are sensible and the bolting very safe.

If you would like to come please let me know and book your own pitch via Pitch Up using the link below.

It’s only a small site so please book quickly as spaces are a bit limited. They did say they would be happy for 2 small tents to share a pitch (by small I agreed a one or two man tent).

This isn’t a formal beginners meet but if anyone is inexperienced and keen to try outdoor climbing please reply to the mailing list and hopefully we can pair you up with a more experienced team.
