Our first evening pub meet of 2017. At the Brewery Tap, Cliff Road, Ipswich. 7.30pm for 8.00pm. This will be a mountaineering-themed quiz night. Martin will be doing the honours as quizmaster. Teams of three or four, to be organised on arrival. Questions to suit all ages and all interests. Further details from Martin follow:
Having been persuaded by those who came last year that a repeat in a similar format would fit the bill, and I’ve enjoyed putting the questions together over the Christmas and New Year break.
I’m hoping for a really good turn out on 17 January so please circle the date in your diary if you’re free. It really does make the quizmaster’s efforts worthwhile if lots of people turn up.
By popular demand (well it was Robert’s request actually, but he is popular, and I think he does speak for others) I’ve made sure around 25% of the questions this year require no mountaineering or climbing knowledge – though they all have a tenuous mountain link. Just general knowledge should suffice for these. The remaining questions are split between climbing, hill-walking and mountaineering, with something for the young, the old and all stages in between.
As last year, each round has five questions on a theme, earning from 1 – 5 points according to difficulty. It’s a team effort, and your team’s task will be to choose which three of your answers from each round you want to count towards your total score (assuming you have more than three answers to choose from of course!) You can play safe by counting the easy answers you are confident in, or play bold by including your “inspired guesses” for the harder questions. There will be music and picture rounds – courtesy of modern technology – and a couple of “Pointless” rounds based on the BBC Quiz. Each team can play a “Joker” for double points on their favorite round. All the rules will become crystal clear on the night, hopefully before the quiz is finished!
We’ll organise the teams when people arrive, trying to get a balance of knowledge (and age) on each team.
It’s all to be taken in a light-hearted spirit (honest) and there’ll be plenty of opportunity to sample the Brewery Tap’s fine ales and other beverages throughout the evening.
“Quiz-Off” will be at 8.00pm.
Hope to see you there!
