The beginners meet is usually one of the biggest on the IMC calendar, for those beginners / improvers this is a great chance to get out there and get up some rock. One word of caution is that if we don’t have enough leaders & assistants then we won’t be able to take everybody – but we’ll do our best.
For those that haven’t been on one of these meets before, here are some brief details
- we usually share lifts. It’s up to you to sort out your transport but I’ll facilitate as best I can. There’s usually lots of emails before the meet to arrange things, you’d rarely have to travel on your own. Most people will travel up after work on the Friday and come back Sunday afternoon/evening. (some of the experienced climbers may extend the weekend with a day or 2 before / after)
- I will use Hardhurst Farm in Hope Valley as the main base and most people will camp there. Obviously you don’t have to camp, but unless otherwise arranged you’ll need to get to the campsite in the morning of each day to hook up with your partner (and collect any gear).
- as a beginner or improver – you’ll be put with an experienced club member (or usually with 2 – a leader and an assistant). Actually partnerships / groups may be flexible till the last moment so it is unlikely that you will know who it will be until just before the meet (or maybe not until the morning or each day). This is because people’s availability can change right up to the last moment and it can be tricky juggling who to put with who so that everybody gets the most out of the meet).
- there will be club gear to borrow but probably not enough for everyone so if you have your own harness and helmet that would help a lot. If you are thinking about buying some gear before the meet and want some advice, then let me know.
Any questions just ask,
Thanks,
Andrew Kerrison
